Born in India, Kenneth was educated at Felsted School and Oxford, where he gained a degree in Modern Languages. He served in the Coldstream Guards 1943-46 - was wounded in the Normandy landings - demobilised as a Captain. Kenneth's long association with the BBC began in 1948, when he became a radio announcer. He transferred to Television in 1954 as one of the first TV newsreaders, staying until 1961.

Between 1961 and 1969, he freelanced in Television, radio and films before rejoining BBC TV. This stay was to last until 1981 and was, for many people, the heyday of BBC TV News with the fondly remembered "big three" newsreaders - Kenneth Kendall, Richard Baker and Robert Dougall.

1981 saw Kenneth's last news bulletin, whereupon he entered a new phase in his broadcasting career. He has made appearances for virtually every Television company but is best-known for his hosting of CHANNEL 4's Treasure Hunt. Something of an unknown quantity when it began, Treasure Hunt established itself as a firm favourite with the viewing public and consistently topped the CHANNEL 4 ratings chart.

Kenneth lives on the Isle of Wight where he has recently opened an art gallery, specialising in the work of local painters. He devotes much of his time to his favourite charities, Animal Welfare, MIND and Marie Curie Cancer Care and enjoys collecting pictures, music and cooking, as well as racing and theatre.
